A Mid-Spring Hail Storm in Oak Hill, Virginia May - August 2010

Spring in Northern Virginia brings with it unsettled weather. On Friday, 14 May 2010, we watched with apprehension as dark clouds approached our area. Now when you drive though our neighborhood you’ll see many homes with contractor signs in their front yards as they replace their siding or roofs.  A similar storm in 1999 caused us to replace our aluminum siding in 2001 after an insurance adjustor informed us we qualified due to the damage done by the storm (Daria firmly believes the damage was just Adam and neighboring kids playing ball and our house as the backstop). Back then we also replaced the 15-year old roof at our expense at the same time as it seemed the prudent ting to do.

But it was the summer when the vast extent of the damage was finally made clear. In June and July armies of contractor representatives prowled the neighborhood offering to inspect your roof to see if it had been damaged by hail.  We choose A&S Contractors who took the pictures of the roof damage. After our Statefarm adjuster examined our house, we found that our roof, 2nd story gutters, downspouts, family room skylights, various window trim and screens needed to be replaced. So although we bought a 40-year roof back in 2001, it was going to be replaced after less than 10-years service.
