The 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

28 August 2013

The March on Washington lead by Martin Luther king, Jr, and others, took place 50 years ago today. The Marchers started at Union Station and eventually made their way to the Lincoln Memorial. On their way, as it was a March for Jobs and Equality, they stopped at the Department of Labor. The DOL offices moved in to 1970s to a new building (named after Frances Perkins, the first female Secretary, who was appointed by President Franklin Roosevelt).

These pictures were taken from the Perkins’ building sixth-floor patio as the March first appeared on Constitution Avenue.
